High Desert Pest Control
Snake Control
Rattlesnakes turn up where houses back onto open desert — and in the newer High Desert communities, that is most of the back fence line. Snake control is prevention, not eradication: the goal is to make a property as unattractive to them as possible, by repelling what arrives and removing what drew it there in the first place.
Call Now — (442) 437-8396Signs of a snake problem
- Shed skins along block walls, under decking, or behind stored items
- Rodent activity in the yard — the food source that brings snakes in
- Sightings along the back wall where the property meets open desert
- Burrows, rock piles, and dense ground cover close to the house
How we handle it
Snake control works on two fronts at once. A repellent is applied along backyard perimeter walls and the other places snakes are likely to enter or travel, renewed on every visit so it never weathers away. Alongside it, an exterior rodent bait station goes on the property and is maintained — mice and rats are a primary food source for rattlesnakes, and taking away the food is what stops a yard being worth the trip. General pest control can be added on top to cut down the insects that feed the rodents.
How snakes get inside
- Gaps and weep holes at the base of perimeter block walls
- Open gates, and fence lines that stop short of the ground
- Dense landscaping and rock features that run right up to the house
- Following rodent runs — where the prey goes, the snake follows
What you can do before we get there
A few quick things you can do today that'll make any treatment — ours or your own — work better.
- Keep children and pets well away from any snake, and never handle one yourself — call for removal
- Clear rock piles, debris, and dense ground cover from along the foundation and walls
- Keep woodpiles and stored items up off the ground and away from the house
- Cut the rodent food source: sealed pet food and birdseed, no spillage, no standing water
- Keep grass short and landscaping trimmed back so there is no cover next to the wall
